Checklist before buying a shed

This checklist is crucial for the success of your project.

For Garages, Farmsheds and Barns

1. Do you require a building permit? Any building over 10 square metres requires a building permit.
2. Do you require a planning permit? Please check with your local planning department at the council.
3. Is the building to be constructed over an easement? If so you require permission from the water board and/ or the local council.
4. What is the building to be used for generally? Garage cars, storage, workshop, light industry, stables, living area, etc?
5. Think about the height, what is the lowest point of the wall required?
6. What height is required under the door? If necessary measure the car, float, the boat etc. Remember the opening of a 2.4m garage door is only 2.050m!
7. What width door is required to allow you to easily manoeuvre your car, boat, etc into the building? Would it be more practical to purchase a large 5 m door or 2 doors with a removable mullion?
8. To suit your needs would it be better to place the doors in the side (longer) wall than in the gable end?
9. Consider placing another door in the rear of the building to allow you easy access to the rear of the property.
10. Do you require personal access door/s windows, skylights? Consider the position of these to be used to their best advantage.
11. If purchasing a barn do you require a loft either now or in the future? If so deign the barn so that there is standing height available in the loft region.
12. Do you want to lay the concrete slab first or build using footings and concrete the floor at a later date?
13. Choose your colours carefully. If necessary drive around some new building estates and look at the colour combinations being used.

For Garden Sheds, Avairies, Fowlhouses and Gazebos.

4. What height of wall do you require for storage or access?   1.8m, 1.98m or 2.1m
5. What type of door would be best suited?  Single, Wide Single, Double, Sliding or Garage.
6. Do you require a window fitted to the shed?  We have available both Louvre and Sliding windows.
7. Do you require any skylights in the roof? Where would they be best suited for light?
8. Do you require any options? Shelving, Bike hooks, guttering
9. What type of floor would be best suited for the shed?

For Cubbies

1. What size and design would be best suited for your property?
2. Would it be more suitable elevated?
3. Would you like to add a slide to the elevated cubby?
4. Do you require any options? Extra windows, skylight ridge, furniture.
